0.2.42Latest
- Dragging on a page works again. In 0.2.41, dragging a card on a Jira or Trello board, a link, an image or an audio track froze the page until you reloaded it. Thanks,.
- Clicking − on a row in a pinned group no longer crashes Ardia.
- The first launch after an update is no longer two to four seconds slower. macOS checks a new version before it runs for the first time; Install and Relaunch now gets that check done while you wait for the restart, so the new window opens as fast as usual.
- Full screen has no grey bar across the top. Entering full screen left an empty bar until the menu bar came down once, and revealing the menu bar slid an opaque bar in under it, over videos too. The window now slides under the menu bar, as in Dia. Thanks, and.
- Background tabs sleep sooner, so many open tabs hold less memory. Only the four tabs you used last stay loaded for a while; other background tabs sleep after 20 minutes, and tabs in profiles you aren't looking at sleep first. Tabs that are playing, recording, in a split or holding unsaved text never sleep.
- Switching profiles no longer stutters or flickers. With a lot of tabs open the switch stuttered, and the window tint and the sidebar snapped back for a frame or two as it finished.
- Sync writes far less to disk. It saved its whole state every few seconds; it now writes each change on its own and the full state about once an hour.
- Sync asks for Touch ID or your password before it shows, copies or saves your recovery phrase, and synced passwords stay sealed until the moment they're saved on your Mac. Passwords sync between Macs once both run this version.
- A page can't take over another tab's picture in picture, and notifications only show for sites you allowed.
- Permission prompts ignore clicks for their first half second and show the site's full address, so a page can't trick you into allowing something.
- The address bar never runs javascript: you type or paste, cuts long site names from the start instead of the end, hides a username or password in the address and always shows the port.
- Renaming a group or tab ends when you click the empty sidebar, keeping the new name, instead of staying open until a second click opened a new tab.
- Onboarding sets Ardia up like the browser you're coming from. Pick Arc, Dia, Zen, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Brave or Edge and its tab layout, address bar, new tabs, search engine and more come along, so you only answer the questions that are left. It opens with the meadow from ardia.dev: a sunrise in light mode, a moonlit night in dark mode.
- Importing from Dia brings your open and pinned tabs along with bookmarks, history and passwords, in one step.
- Settings shows the everyday options first. The rest sit behind Show advanced settings at the bottom of the sidebar, and search still finds everything.
- An insecure download asks before it finishes. It waits in Downloads with Keep and Discard instead of sitting there with a progress bar that never moves.
- The selected Top App is Liquid Glass with a ring in its icon's colours, in the sidebar and the tab strip, like Dia.
- Make a custom theme right on onboarding's "Pick a color" screen, with the same colour wheel as Settings › Profiles.
- Sidebar tab titles use the full width of the row until you hover it.
- Hovering the address field no longer pushes the zoom, translate or camera indicators aside.
- The selected Top App's ring no longer shows a coloured fringe at its corners.
- The Downloads panel shows the insecure-download warning in full.
- Onboarding's browsers fit in two rows of four again, without scrolling.
- Crash reports say what went wrong, so crashes can be traced back to the code; they still carry nothing about you or your pages.
Apple Silicon, macOS 14 or later. Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple: download, drag it to Applications, open it.

This build's source, with the engine's patches and build scripts: https://github.com/mantrakp04/ardia/tree/v0.2.42 (LICENSE and NOTICE there cover the licenses). The engine's Helium and uBlock sources as built, and where Chromium's is: https://github.com/mantrakp04/ardia/releases/download/v0.2.41-nightly.6/ArdiaCore-529394c5c4d1-source.tar.xz
0.2.41
Ardia now runs on Chromium 156, and streaming sites open in WebKit, where their protected video plays. Your profiles, tabs, passwords, cookies, extensions and uBlock Origin filters carry over as they are.
- Ardia runs on Chromium 156. The engine moves up from 155 to 156.0.8078.47, with Helium 0.20.1's privacy patches on top, and brings Chrome 156's security fixes.
- Netflix and other streaming sites play, in WebKit. Netflix, Disney+, Max, Prime Video, Hulu, Apple TV+, Spotify and others open in WebKit from the first visit; Settings › Engines › Open streaming sites in WebKit turns it off. Any page can move there from its tab's menu or View › Open Page in WebKit, and when a video needs DRM that Chromium can't play, Ardia offers to move it, with Move Back and "Don't ask again for this site". WebKit keeps its own sign-ins, and extensions and the ad blocker stay in Chromium for now.
- Import from Zen, with each space as a profile, its pinned tabs, folders, Essentials and tab icons, plus bookmarks, history, cookies and passwords. Thanks,.
- A new onboarding for new installs: Arc or Dia first, then one choice per page, previewed as you pick, with every browser in "Where are you coming from?" showing its icon. A setup code from the ardia.dev demo sets Ardia up the same way: paste it on the first screen ("Have a setup code?") or in Settings › General.
- New tabs can open below the current one. Settings › Tabs › "Add new tabs" has a third choice, "Below the current tab": the new tab joins that tab's group, and closing it takes you back. Where the New Tab button sits is its own setting again.
- Screen sharing can include audio. For a screen or a window, tick "Also share system audio"; for a window, the app's own audio when the site asks for it. Sharing a tab carries its sound again.
- Hovering a collapsed group shows every tab in it, most recently used first, with a search field and arrow keys, as in Arc. Thanks,.
- Pinned tabs show − and unload, as in Arc, and a pinned group's − unloads all its tabs. A second middle-click or the ✕ on a closed pin removes it, with Undo, and closing an unpinned group asks first. Thanks,.
- Tabs in pinned groups keep their pinned page, with Back to Pinned URL, and it syncs across your Macs. The tab menu is shorter, with moves and pinned-page controls in submenus that say where a tab goes. Thanks,.
- Extensions show up in the command bar. Type an extension's name to open its popup or its options, as in Arc. Thanks,, for asking.
- ⌥-click can open a link in split view, a new choice in Settings › Tabs › Links. ⌥⇧-click and ⌥⌘-click open the split again, as in Dia.
- Private windows say they're private, with an Incognito heading, a private search field and a sidebar badge. Thanks,.
- Custom themes can be black, and their gradient can turn. The colour wheel has a brightness bar, and a dial sets the gradient's direction. Thanks,.
- Profile themes follow dark mode, so spaces imported from Arc as Light no longer stay light at night. Thanks,.
- The selected tab's glow can be Full, Soft or Off (Settings › Appearance › Selected Tab), and page scroll bars can be thin, even with a mouse plugged in (Settings › Appearance › Scroll Bars).
- Tab groups have a None colour that draws no box, like Arc's folders, and can have no icon. Thanks,.
- Live folders can hide a pull request until you refresh, and each folder can turn off "Group Stacked Pull Requests" and "Show Completed". Thanks,.
- Hold ⌘ in the profile menu to open a profile in a new window. Thanks,.
- The Raycast extension can switch profiles and open new tabs and windows, incognito ones included. Thanks,.
- Windows open and close with a short fade, like Little Ardia. Thanks,.
- Popup windows show the site's address in a strip the page can't cover. Thanks,.
- Ardia installs with Homebrew: brew install mantrakp04/tap/ardia, or ardia@nightly for nightlies.
- Ardia sends one anonymous "opened today" count a day, even with sharing off. It holds the app version, update channel, macOS version, chip, and whether it's this copy's first day, week or month. There's no persistent ID; each day's count gets a new random one. Settings › Privacy & Security › What's Sent lists it.
- Focusing the address bar with Zhuyin or Kotoeri no longer crashes Ardia.
- Closing a tab lets the page save first, so Discord and other sites no longer sign you out when you close their tab.
- Windows and tabs come back as you left them. Windows that were in full screen return in full screen, each in its own Space, after a relaunch or an update. Tabs keep their Back and Forward history across a relaunch, and Back turns off after Clear History.
- Clear keeps the selected tab and tabs playing sound, as in Arc, instead of closing everything and opening a New Tab page. Undo works until you change the window.
- Ardia is sharp on 1x external displays. Pages and the sidebar looked soft when the Mac's own screen was the main one.
- A camera or microphone prompt no longer comes back after you allow it, and a prompt a site withdrew no longer appears later.
- Shortcut hints show the key you set. Menus, the command bar and tooltips follow your rebinding, and Settings no longer reports a conflict with a shortcut you took over.
- Launch looks settled from the first frame: pinned icons, the glass and the address bar's colour no longer flicker in.
- Switching tabs shows the new page at once instead of fading between them.
- Deleting a profile removes its WebKit data too.
- New Tab stays at the top when that's the setting, however many tabs there are. It used to drop to the bottom once the list filled the sidebar. Thanks,.
- Import finds Brave Beta and Nightly, Edge's and Vivaldi's other channels too, and brings tabs over from browsers on Chromium 156. Imported tabs show their icons before you open them, and keep them after 30 days. Thanks,.
- Arc import keeps favorites that are also pinned, and onboarding no longer pins a site twice. Arc imports get Arc's grain, about five times subtler than before. Thanks,.
- Closing a pane of a pinned split keeps it one pinned split, instead of splitting it into separate pins.
- A pinned tab dragged in the top bar's dock lands where you drop it.
- Settings › Extensions opens on the window's profile, so a pin you turn on shows in that window, and Back returns to the Extensions list.
- Little Ardia shows extension popups, fades in once its page is ready, and can be dragged by its title. Popup windows, such as a Messenger call, can ask for the camera and microphone. Thanks,.
- Swiping to another profile no longer ends with a jump. Thanks,.
- The page no longer jumps on every ardia command. A pill floats over the page while the CLI is connected, instead of a bar that pushed it down. Thanks,.
- The Downloads panel hangs from its button, and the page shows blurred through it. Thanks,.
- A group's own tabs sit indented under it, and tabs answer a click. Thanks, and.
- Hiding horizontal tabs (⌘S) slides them away, and the page keeps its margins.
- Translation covers long footnotes and side-by-side buttons on pages like apple.com.
- Settings › Tabs can hide the ↓ Clear button. Thanks,.
- Settings › Search Engine can turn off the Search button on selected text. Thanks,.
- Settings › Tabs can fade the icons of tabs that aren't loaded. Thanks,.
- On macOS 26, Settings › Tabs can give the selected Top App Dia's icon-coloured ring. Thanks,.
- The selected first tab's glow isn't cut off at the top of the list. Thanks,.
- Hovering a group below a collapsed live folder shows the group, not one of the folder's pull requests. Thanks,.
- In full screen, the traffic lights move below the menu bar and stay clickable.
- ⌘S in a page's text field goes to the page, and ⌘S twice quickly toggles the sidebar.
- The address bar pastes plain text, so a copied link pastes as its URL.
- The window-sharing pill stays with the window when the sidebar is hidden. Thanks,.
- Move Tab Up and Down step over whole groups and stay out of the pinned area.
- The top tab strip scrolls to the selected tab when it's out of view.
- A site without an icon no longer shows the previous site's icon.
- A sidebar group shows its box only while the pointer is over it.
- The profile dots show Dia's tooltip.
- A group named after an IP address shows the address instead of "0".
- Colours are consistent across the app: one red for errors, Dia's menu hover on every row, Dia's separator everywhere.

This build's source, with the engine's patches and build scripts: https://github.com/mantrakp04/ardia/tree/v0.2.41 (LICENSE and NOTICE there cover the licenses). The engine's Helium and uBlock sources as built, and where Chromium's is: https://github.com/mantrakp04/ardia/releases/download/v0.2.41-nightly.6/ArdiaCore-529394c5c4d1-source.tar.xz
0.2.40
Ardia's engine now starts from Helium's privacy patches instead of ungoogled-chromium's, on the same Chromium 155. Your profiles, tabs, passwords, cookies, extensions and uBlock Origin filters carry over as they are. Around it, a long list of Arc's habits arrived, most of them behind a switch.
- A new engine under the same Chromium 155. Ardia's engine is now built on Helium's patches, by the Helium authors. A few defaults change with it: Secure DNS switches on by itself when your DNS provider offers it, a site that only works over plain HTTP asks before it loads, and canvas, audio and CPU-core readouts get a little noise so they're harder to use for fingerprinting. Ardia is now free software under the GPL-3.0; About Ardia links this version's source.
- Search for any setting. A field at the top of the Settings sidebar finds a setting by its name, its description or a common word for it ("cookies", "dark", "pip"), and forgives a typo. ⌘F jumps to it, and Return opens the pane with the setting scrolled into view and highlighted.
- Peek at a link before you open it. Shift-click a link (or Option-click, set in Settings › Tabs) and its page opens in a small Little Ardia window over the one you're on. ⌘O or a two-finger spread opens it as a tab; Esc, a pinch or a click outside closes it. A Peek isn't saved, synced or kept in Recently Closed. Thanks,.
- Pinned folders, in the sidebar and on top. Hold a pinned tile over another to make a folder, or pick New Folder with Tab from its menu. Groups can hold groups, Arc's folders import as them, and pinned groups and nested folders show in the top tab strip too. Thanks,.
- Arrange pinned tabs, groups and live folders in any order, and the order follows you to your other Macs. Thanks,.
- Group pinned tabs. Pinned rows have New Group with Tab and Move to Group, ⌃⌘N groups them, and dropping a tab on the middle of a pinned row makes a pinned group in its place.
- Tidy your pins. Next to Clear, Tidy closes duplicate pins, files loose ones into the folder of their site and makes a folder from two or more pins of one site. Undo puts everything back.
- Splits pin and group as one row. Pin a split, move it to a group or drag it into one, and both panes go together, in every window of the profile.
- Bangs in the command bar. Type "!gh react", "react !w" or just "!yt" and Return goes straight to that site's search, or to the site itself. The list is Helium's (Kagi's bangs plus imput's), built in and refreshed at most once a day, never at launch. Start with "?" for a plain search.
- ⌘T lists your open tabs before you type, most recent first, when new tabs open the command bar. Type "split" or "move tab" for split view and profile actions.
- Group tabs by dragging with tabs on top. Drop a tab on the middle of another to make a group, or on a group to join it. A drop near the edge still reorders.
- Little Ardia can change profile. Pick one from the button in its bar, or open it in a profile from the File and Dock menus.
- Choose your Downloads folder in Settings › General, per profile, and whether to ask where to save each file.
- Picture in Picture goes to a corner when you throw it, as in Dia, and has ±10 s buttons; ← and → skip too.
- The app icon follows macOS's dark, clear and tinted styles.
- As in Arc, if you want it, each behind a switch that's off: ⌘Z reopens closed tabs, ⌘L opens in the middle of the window, Top Apps tiles grow with the sidebar instead of adding columns (thanks,, and your tabs show in every window of the profile.
- The sidebar's top row sits where Arc's does. With the address bar in the sidebar, the window buttons and the URL field line up with Arc's. The sidebar's buttons take clicks only on their own plates; the rest of the row moves the window.
- Saved passwords and cookies no longer vanish after a slow login. If the login keychain hadn't shown Ardia its key yet when Ardia started, Ardia made a new key, and every saved password and cookie stopped opening. Now it makes a key only for a brand-new profile; otherwise it waits a few seconds, then asks. A key Ardia isn't allowed to use, or a damaged one, gets Try Again instead of a quit.
- Typing an accent no longer crashes Ardia. On keyboards with dead keys, like Portuguese, typing ´ or ` in a tab name, the command bar or the find bar closed the app.
- The window moves when you drag it on macOS 27. Dragging a window by its toolbar, the top of the sidebar or the top tab strip left it where it was, because macOS 27 stopped honouring the way apps hand a drag to the system. Ardia now moves the window itself, and it keeps up with a fast drag. The top few points of the window also move it now, where before they only zoomed on a double-click.
- ⌘V and typing right after ⌘T, ⌘L or ⌘F land in the new field. A paste or the first letters typed just after opening a tab, the address bar or Find went into the old page.
- Escape and ⌘W give the page its focus back. Closing the command bar left nothing focused, so keys and ⌘V did nothing until you clicked the page.
- ⌘Z after closing the command bar no longer closes Ardia.
- ⌘W closes the tab with the find bar open. The first press used to close only the find bar. Esc still closes just the find bar.
- Next and previous tab work from DevTools and pages that grab keys. ⌃⇟, ⌃⇞, ⇧⌘], ⇧⌘[, ⌥⌘→ and ⌥⌘← switch tabs before the page or DevTools sees them, as in Chrome.
- A zoomed window fills itself. After a double-click on the window's top edge or Window › Zoom, the sidebar and page could stay at their old size in the top-left corner.
- Windows keep their size after Zoom or tiling, and a new window opens at the last one's size.
- Install and Relaunch works with a window in full screen, even on another Space.
- Dragging a tab in the auto-hidden sidebar reorders it. It used to make a split view every time, and the sidebar could slide away mid-drag. Drag it out over the page to split; Esc cancels.
- The floating sidebar stays out while the pointer is on the Dock and while you use its menus, a hover card, a rename or the icon picker; Site Controls opens beside it instead of behind it. Thanks,.
- The speaker shows on tabs playing sound again, including YouTube videos that start slowly or in a background tab.
- The Picture in Picture button works on silent videos and pages with several videos again, and Pause always answers, even after the controls fade.
- 英数 and かな switch the input source again in the New Tab bar and every other field of Ardia's own.
- New tabs no longer flash white in dark mode.
- Page translation is faster, and translating a page again, or a second tab, is nearly instant.
- Launch goes straight from the saved picture to the real window, without a dark moment in between, and the picture looks like the window it stands in for.
- The pinned tiles stay put while the tabs scroll, which now scroll under a thin line that fades in, as in Dia.
- Pinned tiles keep their 6 pt gaps after a drag, and the rows no longer jitter while you reorder. Thanks,.
- Little Ardia opens on the display you clicked the link on. Thanks,.
- The theme editor shows the theme you picked, in the window behind it and in its preview. Thanks,.
- Importing from Arc again adds nothing twice. It also brings your sidebar with a Little Arc open, GitHub and Bitbucket live folders come over as live folders, and profiles made from one Arc profile's spaces share its data. Thanks,.
- The "Set Ardia as default browser" checkbox in onboarding can be clicked again. Thanks,.
- A shortcut you set wins over another action's default on the same keys, so ⌘D can pin. ⌘↓ and ⌘↑ still move the caret in text fields when they're bound to switching tabs.
- No more empty extra profiles after accepting an extension another app installed, and that extension no longer pops up a prompt.
- No more crash reports from Apple's Passwords helper. Ardia no longer starts it; it only runs in browsers Apple recognises.
- Settings panes appear finished, without toggles sliding to their values or lists popping in late.
- A Top Apps folder stays lit while you hold a tile over it, so the tile joins it.
- The ⌘T bar opens at its full width, without growing in.
- Cleaned tabs leave Recently Cleaned after a week, and the count beside New Tab shows only where it fits.
- A pull request's hover card no longer overflows. Thanks,.
- Chrome's "Close window with last tab: Never" flag works.
- ⇧⌘C in DevTools selects an element again instead of copying the page's address.
- Peeking at a hidden sidebar shows no sliver of the page round its corners.
- A rare crash after two quick clicks on the same sidebar row is gone.

0.2.39
- Sites signed with eMudhra's compromised certificates are blocked. Eight eMudhra intermediate certificates were made with private keys anyone can work out from the certificates themselves, so anyone could have issued a certificate for any site through them. Ardia now refuses those eight, their copies cross-signed by Sectigo, and the emSign ECC Root CA - G3 they chain to, as Chrome, Firefox and Safari do. The block is built into Ardia, so it holds without waiting for a download.
- Certificate revocations and root updates arrive again. chrome://components showed CRLSet at 0.0.0.0 with "Update error": Ardia never received Chrome's list of revoked certificates, its root store updates or its list of Certificate Transparency logs, and the built-in copy of that list would have gone out of date around 29 November, when Chrome's checks that a site's certificate is publicly logged stop. Ardia now fetches CRLSet, PKI Metadata and the SSL error assistant from Google over HTTPS, with no install ID, cookies or ping. No other component updates.
- Tabs and pinned tiles open on the first click. A tile or tab clicked as its hover card appeared needed a second click, because the card took the first one while it faded in.
- Scrolling runs at full speed on battery. With Battery Saver on, Ardia capped every page at 30 frames a second whenever the Mac ran on battery, scrolling and typing included. Scrolling, typing and clicking now lift that cap until a second after you stop, and Battery Saver itself now waits for 20% battery or Low Power Mode instead of turning on whenever the Mac is unplugged. If you had turned it off, it stays off.
- Things that follow the scroll no longer shake. In 0.2.38, sticky headers, parallax and other content a site moves as you scroll updated at half the rate of the scroll itself. They keep up now, while idle pages and video still save power at 60 frames a second.
- You can reach a pinned tile's hover card. On a tile on the left of the grid, moving to its card to press Unpin or Reset made the card jump to the tile or tab underneath and vanish. The card now stays while you head for it and while you're on it, from any tile and from tab rows.
- Renaming a tab group works again. The name field closed the moment it opened, so the old name stayed. The same went for renaming a single tab.
- Settings no longer opens blank. The Settings and Import windows could come up empty until a relaunch.
- The mini player moves when you grab it. Dragging the Picture in Picture window failed most of the time; now it follows the pointer on every drag.
- The address field works on a New Tab page. With the address bar in the sidebar, clicking its field or pressing ⌘L on a New Tab page did nothing; both open the address dropdown now, as on any page.
- Switches turn off with a click on their knob. Once a switch was on, clicking its knob did nothing, so Battery Saver and the rest took several clicks to turn off.
- "Shared data" shows on every Mac. A profile added from another Mac through Sync got data of its own, so Settings › Profiles hid its Shared data row. It now shares the same profile's data there too. A profile already added that way keeps its own data: remove it on that Mac and use "Add to This Mac" again.
- Backspace after "x.com " gives back "x.com ". Typing a space after a site switches to searching it; Backspace now restores the space instead of dropping it, and no longer closes the command bar.
- Arc-style themes. Settings › Profiles › a profile › Theme now has a custom gradient next to the presets: up to three colours on a colour wheel, Intensity, Pass-through blur, Noise with four textures, and Light, Dark or Match System. The window repaints as you drag, and the theme syncs with the profile.
- Bring a space's theme over from Arc. Importing Arc spaces now sets each profile's theme to its space's, colours and all, including a separate dark look. "Import from Arc…" in the Theme section applies one space's theme to the current profile.
- New tab can open the command bar, as in Arc. Settings › Tabs › "New tab opens" › Command Bar makes ⌘T, File › New Tab and + New Tab bring up the command bar over the page instead of a New Tab page. No tab exists until you pick something, and Esc leaves everything as it was. The New Tab page stays the default.
- Pin tabs as rows above your tabs. As in Dia's Pinned section, a pinned tab can sit as a regular row between the tiles and your tabs, instead of a square. Right-click a tab and choose Move to Pinned Tabs, or drag it there; Move to Top Apps makes it a tile again. Double-clicking a pinned tile takes it back to its pinned page, as in Dia; Rename is in its menu.
- Move to Pinned, and back, with ⌥⇧⌘D. It moves the selected tabs into the pinned list, and a pinned tab back to where it was. It's in the Tabs menu and can be changed in Settings › Keyboard Shortcuts.
- A pinned tab has one page across windows, as in Dia. Opening a pinned tab in a second window moves its page there without reloading, video and all. The first window shows it greyed until you click it back.
- Sync carries your extensions. With Sync on, a Chrome Web Store extension you install on one Mac installs on your others, with the same permissions you approved and the same on, private-window and toolbar-pin settings. Removing one stops it from installing on your other Macs; it doesn't remove it there yet. Settings › Sync › "Extensions" turns it off.
- Site Controls looks like Arc's, and pins extensions. The sliders button in the address row opens a panel with Share, Copy Clean Link and Find on Page on top, your extensions as tiles, and the site's settings below. Right-click an extension to pin it to the toolbar or unpin it; ⋯ has everything the old list had.
- Drop files and links into the tab list. Files from Finder, finished downloads from the Downloads popover and links from other apps open as tabs where you drop them: between rows, inside a group, or on the pinned tiles to pin them. Before, dropping them there did nothing.
- The margins around the page move the window. Grab the space above, beside or below the page to drag the window, and double-click it to zoom, as Dia and Arc allow.
- Write your own userscripts. The ardia command tests a TypeScript userscript on a real page, iframes included, and installs it into Ardia, the way Violentmonkey does. It works while Settings lets the ardia command control Ardia.
- You can hide the sidebar button. Settings › Tabs › Show sidebar button. ⌘S still shows and hides the sidebar.
| | 0.2.38 | 0.2.39 | Change | |---|---|---|---| | Close a tab (⌘W) | 45 ms | 24 ms | −46 % | | Pin a tab | 50 ms | 28 ms | −44 % | | Unpin a tab | 49 ms | 24 ms | −50 % | | Move a tab down (⌃⇧PgDn) | 21 ms | 12 ms | −40 % | | New tab (⌘T) to first frame | 57 ms | 37 ms | −34 % | | Next tab (⌃Tab) | 29 ms | 21 ms | −28 % | | Open a link in the background (⌘-click) | 59 ms | 45 ms | −23 % | | Jump to a tab (⌘1–9) | 30 ms | 24 ms | −21 % |
Closing a tab moved most: ⌘W shows its result in 24 ms instead of 45.
- Switching, closing, opening and pinning tabs take a third to a half less time. Timed from the key press or click to the frame on screen, with 60 tabs in two windows. A window used to build a fresh toolbar on every tab switch and take every row of the sidebar out and put it back when one changed; it now keeps one toolbar and touches only the row that changed.
- The New Tab box reads as what it is: "Search or enter address", an "Open a tab or file" chip and a Go button naming your search engine, instead of copy that looked like an AI chat.
- About Ardia links the source code, the licence and the credits for the version you run, and Settings › Advanced has "Source and licenses".
- Site Controls lines your extensions up under its action tiles however many you have, also with a mouse connected.
- Switching between light and dark while typing in the New Tab box no longer leaves its placeholder invisible.
- The tab hover card fades and springs in from its corner, and shrinks away when you move off, like Dia's.
- The downloads popover closes when you clear it, animates closed, and matches the other popovers' size, padding and type.
- Popovers open a little faster and animate closed.
- Site Controls keeps the sliders button shown, pressed, while its panel is open.
- An auto-hiding toolbar stays down while an extension's popup is open.
- Clicking the middle of an extension's toolbar icon opens it; only its edge used to.
- Opening a new tab no longer flashes its centred box over the page you were on.
- Search Tabs (⇧⌘A) opens every time, also with the command bar open.
- Pinned tiles keep their spacing after switching profiles from the menu, and no longer show a return arrow after you navigate away; Reset is still in the hover card.
- Dropping a tab just past the last pinned tile in the top tab strip no longer leaves it stuck.
- The "+ New Tab" row no longer gets stuck over the list after opening several tabs at once.
- Each colour in a tab group's colour menu shows its swatch again, and hovering a group's header no longer draws a second edge inside it.
- With a narrow sidebar, back and forward stay side by side and reload gives way first.
- ardia exec can read your pinned tabs and history, so an agent can sum up the sites you keep and visit.

0.2.38
- Ardia runs on Chromium 155, built the way Chrome ships it. The engine moves up from 154 and is now an official build with link-time and profile-guided optimisation, like Chrome's own.
- The full uBlock Origin is built in. Ardia now ships uBlock Origin itself in place of uBlock Origin Lite, the way Helium does. Your allowed sites, your list choices and blocking-off carry over the first time it starts, and its filter lists keep themselves up to date.
- Clear, as in Arc. A "↓ Clear" at the end of the line above your tabs closes every unpinned tab at once; pinned tabs stay. The toast's Undo puts them all back where they were, groups included, and ⇧⌘K does the same from the keyboard.
- The hidden sidebar is easier to catch. With the sidebar hidden, the peek stays out while the pointer is up to 24 pt past its edge, as in Arc, and throwing the pointer past the window's left edge opens it too. Thanks,.
- Small videos look sharper. A video shown larger than its source is upscaled on the GPU, with Apple's super resolution at 720p and below, only in the tab you're watching. "Video upscaling" in Settings › Tabs turns it off.
| | 0.2.37 | 0.2.38 | Change | |---|---|---|---| | Launch to window on screen | 443 ms | 365 ms | −18 % | | Launch to first page painted | 510 ms | 449 ms | −12 % | | Tab switch to shown | 35 ms | 6 ms | −83 % | | New tab to first paint | 109 ms | 96 ms | −12 % | | New window to first paint | 112 ms | 100 ms | −11 % | | Idle CPU, 20 tabs | 1.58 % | 0.38 % | −76 % | | Idle wakeups, 20 tabs | 30 /s | 14 /s | −54 % | | Memory, 20 tabs | 1,189 MB | 1,094 MB | −8 % |
Switching tabs moved most: a tab now shows in about 6 ms instead of 35.
- Your window and tabs come back sooner. The window you left in front appears the moment Ardia launches, before the rest of the interface loads, and the page in it paints soon after. New tabs, new windows and tab switches from the sidebar are quicker too.
- Ardia uses much less battery. Background tabs past the five most recent freeze, as in Chrome, and quiet ones wake less often; tabs with a live connection, playing audio or allowed to notify you never freeze. Pages that offer passkey sign-in no longer keep Bluetooth searching for a phone, a page left open in another profile rests until you switch to it, and pages draw their JavaScript animation at 60 frames a second on 120 Hz screens while scrolling, typing, video and CSS animation stay at full speed.
- Extension shortcuts work again. A shortcut an extension sets, or one you set in chrome://extensions/shortcuts, did nothing in 0.2.37 and earlier. It now runs the extension's command or opens its popup, while Ardia's own keys like ⌘T, ⌘W and ⌘Q stay Ardia's in every window and on every keyboard layout.
- Every shortcut in Settings can be rebound. ⌘1–⌘9, the tab switcher, Quit, Close Window, Full Screen, the Edit items and the rest either weren't listed or couldn't be changed, and some kept firing on their old key after you rebound them. All of them take your key now.
- Keyboard focus stays where you left it. Esc closes Find on page again, and Enter steps to the next match. Switching tabs, profiles or back to a split puts the caret back in the field you were typing in, and in the command bar the pointer only highlights a row: the arrow keys choose, as in Dia.
- Tabs drag from their icon. Pressing a pinned tile or a tab on its site icon and moving didn't pick it up; it only worked when the press happened to land beside the icon, so dragging a tile out felt like it needed a long hold. It now lifts on the first move, wherever you grab it.
- Tab and Backspace work in site search. Typing a site like google.com and pressing Tab now switches the command bar to "Search Google", even while the address is still being completed, as in Chrome. Backspace in the empty field leaves site search and puts the address back. Before, Tab only selected the text and Backspace did nothing.
- Enter adds the extension. In the "Add extension?" dialog, Enter now presses Add Extension and Esc cancels, as in Chrome; before, both keys went to the page underneath. The same goes for Ardia's other extension dialogs.
- The sidebar's media player only shows media you can hear. X's feed, which autoplays muted videos, put a player card in the sidebar while you scrolled. The card now waits for a video or song that plays with sound; Settings › Tabs › "Show media controls in the sidebar" turns it off.
- Fewer ways for a page to fool you. A page from another site can't paint before the address bar shows it, a blank tab can't pose as another address, and the Cast picker drops the page out of full screen first. Extensions Google flags as malware get turned off again, and the ardia command starts switched off.
- New windows open as Ardia windows, and a link from another app loads once. A window a page or an extension opens is now a real Ardia window, and a link opened from another app while Ardia starts is fetched once instead of twice.
- The download is 109 MB instead of 187, and the app 315 MB instead of 447: Ardia no longer ships the parts of Chrome it never loads.
- The lamb game runs at a steady 120 fps.

0.2.37
- Tabs open and close with Dia's motion. A new tab appears in its place in the sidebar and the tabs below slide down from under it. A closed tab fades where it was while the ones below slide up over it. Before, the list jumped. With the pointer held still on ✕, the next tab slides under it already showing its ✕, so you can keep clicking to close tab after tab, as in Dia. Works inside groups too.
- A Nightly update channel. Settings › General › "Update channel" picks Stable or Nightly. Nightly gets each fix as soon as it's ready, plus every stable release. Stable stays as it was.
- Chrome's own Task Manager. Window › Task Manager opens Chrome's task manager, as Dia's does, and it stays open after you close the window that opened it. Battery Saver now uses Chrome's own tab freezing, which also lowers the frame rate while you're on battery.
| | 0.2.36 | 0.2.37 | Change | |---|---|---|---| | Swiping between profiles, JS time | 135 ms | 95 ms | −30 % | | Swiping between profiles, rows redrawn | 3,800 | 1,280 | −66 % |
Swiping to another profile redraws about a third as many tab rows, so the swipe costs less on a long sidebar.
- Saved passwords stay behind Touch ID. In 0.2.36 and earlier, a program running on your Mac could start Ardia in a way that revealed saved passwords and cards without asking, or opened your signed-in tabs to remote control. Both ways are closed, including the spellings and settings that got around the first fix.
- AppleScript can't run code in your tabs unless you say so. Running JavaScript in a page through AppleScript, directly or through a javascript: address, now needs View › Developer › Allow JavaScript from Apple Events, off by default, as in Chrome.
- Ardia keeps your secure connections to itself. Starting Ardia with a key-log setting, or a flag that weakens certificate checks, no longer writes your HTTPS keys to a file or accepts certificates it shouldn't.
- Clearing a site clears all of it. "Clear cookies & site data" now also removes the cookies a site sets for its whole domain, which usually hold your login, and what it stored inside other sites' pages, as Chrome's own clear does.
- Full screen shows the way out. A page in full screen, or one that locks your pointer or keyboard, now shows Chrome's "Press Esc to exit" notice, so it can't pass itself off as your desktop. A page asking for a Bluetooth or USB device leaves full screen first. The eyedropper on design sites works.
- A full-screen video stays put when you swipe to another Space. Swiping away from a video playing in full screen popped it out into picture in picture and out of full screen. It now stays in full screen and keeps playing where you left it.
- Page dialogs stay out of your way. A sign-in or other page dialog that arrives while you're in another app no longer pulls Ardia in front, and it follows its page when the sidebar or window moves.
- Downloads get macOS's checks again. A file macOS blocks is stopped and removed instead of finishing, and Finder's "Where from" shows the page a download came from.
- Sites can't open the screen-sharing picker by themselves. A page that asked to share your screen on load, as some sign-in pages do, opened the picker without a click. It's refused now, as in Chrome; asking from a click still works.
- A cancelled relaunch stays cancelled. After Relaunch in ardia://flags was cancelled (by a download in progress, say), the next ordinary quit relaunched Ardia anyway.
- The sidebar peeks from the window's top corner. With the sidebar hidden, resting the pointer at the window's top-left corner did nothing; the peek only came lower down. The whole left edge opens it now.
- Saved passwords and card numbers no longer leave copies in memory on their way to be saved.
- Saving an address from an extension's popup no longer risks a crash.
- With the address bar in the sidebar, a tab's preview no longer opens on top of the address bar's suggestions.
