Alfred opens with a hotkey and finds apps, files and contacts as you type, then does the small jobs fast: calculator, spell check, dictionary, kill a process, empty the trash, open a URL in a chosen browser, search any site. The free app covers that launcher; the Powerpack adds the part people actually rave about, a visual workflow editor that turns scripts, hotkeys and keywords into reusable commands, plus clipboard history, snippet expansion, file actions and a music mini player. Workflows, themes and preferences sync through Dropbox or iCloud, and the whole thing is keyboard-first, which is why it outlived every launcher that came after it. It needs macOS 10.14 or later.
