OpenDisk changelog

1.4Latest
- A redesigned window built like a native Mac app: your disks and folders live in a sidebar, the list looks like Finder's with Name, Size and Kind columns, and the sunburst sits beside it.
- OpenDisk reopens the disk or folder you last looked at. External and network drives fall back to your Mac's own disk, so launching never wakes a sleeping drive.
- Rescans keep your previous results on screen while they run, and skip the slow change check for scans more than a few hours old. Progress shows how many changed folders are left.
- Opening folders is instant, and the sunburst builds up to 300 times faster in big folders like Library.
- Make the list text bigger or smaller with ⌘+ and ⌘−, and reset it with ⌘0.
- Folders sort like Finder (file-2 before file-10), sizes under 1 GB show in MB, and long scans read "1 hr 2 min".
- The Collector floats over the chart, explains why protected items can't be deleted, and uses Liquid Glass on macOS 26.
- Free space in the sidebar updates on its own after you delete files.
Requires macOS 14 or later.
1.3.1
- OpenDisk now runs on macOS 14 Sonoma.
- When you empty the Collector you can now choose Move to Trash instead of deleting permanently, so you can put things back later.
- New Back and Forward buttons, like Finder. Back goes up one level and Forward returns to the folder you just left. Use ⌘[ and ⌘], your mouse's side buttons, or a trackpad swipe. Unmount moves to ⌘E.
- Rows in the list highlight on hover again, and the Collector popup no longer stays open, after a quick drop onto the Collector.
- The saved scan no longer keeps growing after repeated rescans, and saving it is faster.
1.3.0
- The Select a Disk window now updates on its own when you mount, eject or rename a volume. Network shares, external drives and disk images appear without restarting OpenDisk.
1.2.9
- Breadcrumbs at the top of the window now respond to clicks on macOS 15 Sequoia. Long paths collapse the middle folders instead of scrolling sideways.
- Keyboard shortcuts for moving through the list, opening folders, Quick Look, Show in Finder and adding items to the Collector. Change any of them in Settings.
- Refresh now returns to the top level and rescans the whole disk.
- A new setting in Settings > Chart turns off the free space wedge, so scanned folders fill the chart on large, mostly empty drives.
1.2.8
Version 1.2.8.
- Free space is now shown as a gray wedge on the sunburst when viewing the whole disk, with used and free sizes in the center

1.2.7
- Breadcrumb path items at the top of the window are clickable again on macOS 15 Sequoia. Each item navigates to that folder.
- New Enclosing Folder toolbar button and ⌘↑ keyboard shortcut to go up one level, matching Finder.
Requires macOS 15 or later.
1.2.6
Free space that stays up to date.
- The available space in the status bar now updates on its own every couple of seconds, instead of being read once when a scan finished
- Available space now includes purgeable space, the same way Finder counts it; hover over the readout to see how much is purgeable
- Reopening a location you have scanned before uses the saved scan more often instead of starting over
[Release notes](https://opendisk.app/release-notes/1.2.6) · Notarized universal build (Apple Silicon + Intel).
1.2.5
Drag and drop into Finder and other apps.
- Dragging files and folders out of OpenDisk now hands other apps the real items (Finder, Dropover, VS Code and more) instead of a .json file
- Drag several selected rows together; in Finder a plain drag moves them like a normal Finder drag, hold Option to copy
- Items in the Collector can be dragged back out: drop one anywhere outside the Collector to remove it from the list (nothing is deleted, Undo Collect brings it back)
- The scanner's worker threads no longer sit blocked while waiting for work, so macOS schedules them at the right priority

1.2.4
Full Disk Access fix for macOS 27.
- Fixed Full Disk Access not appearing in System Settings > Privacy & Security on macOS 27
- OpenDisk now detects when Gatekeeper runs it from a temporary location and relaunches itself so the permission request registers correctly
[Release notes](https://opendisk.app/release-notes/1.2.4) · Notarized universal build (Apple Silicon + Intel).
1.2.3
Full Disk Access fix for macOS 27.
- Fixed Full Disk Access not appearing in System Settings > Privacy & Security on macOS 27
- OpenDisk now detects when Gatekeeper runs it from a temporary location and relaunches itself so the permission request registers correctly
[Release notes](https://opendisk.app/release-notes/1.2.3) · Notarized universal build (Apple Silicon + Intel).
1.2.2
Version 1.2.2.
- Hard-linked files are counted once after a quick rescan
- HFS+ drives now use the same scanner as APFS, fixing oversized totals and enabling fast rescans
- Clearer wording in a few messages
[Release notes](https://opendisk.app/release-notes/1.2.2) · Notarized universal build (Apple Silicon + Intel).
1.2.1
- Runs on macOS 15 Sequoia: the minimum system version drops from macOS 26 to macOS 15. On macOS 26 the app keeps its Liquid Glass panels; on Sequoia they use the system's standard translucent material.
- See how full the disk is: the status bar now shows a capacity bar with "X available of Y". Hover it for the used, available and total figures. It refreshes after every scan, so space you free up shows right away. Closes #5.
- Explicit exit from a scan: an Unmount button in the toolbar (⌘[) asks before clearing the scan and returning to the disk list. It does not eject the disk from macOS. Thanks to @gabriel for the contribution.

1.2.0
- Quick Look previews, just like Finder: select any file and press Space, or right-click and choose Quick Look. Arrow keys step through the list while the preview is open.
- Rescans start much faster: checking what changed since the last scan now runs concurrently with loading the previous results, and gives up early when a full scan would be quicker.
- The status bar now says what the scan is actually doing instead of sitting on a bare "Scanning…".
- Clicking a file selects it, so you can see what Space will preview.

1.0.1
Install polish.
- OpenDisk now offers to move itself into the Applications folder on first launch, so automatic updates always work.
- Tiny download for existing users: this update ships as a 133 KB Sparkle delta.
[Release notes](https://opendisk.app/release-notes/1.0.1) · Notarized universal build (Apple Silicon + Intel).
1.0.0
Initial release.
- Interactive sunburst chart: hover any slice for its exact size, click to zoom into that folder.
- Full-disk scans in seconds: results stream in live while the scan runs.
- Incremental rescans reuse the previous scan and replay filesystem events, 20–28× faster than a cold scan.
- Sortable, Finder-style folder list with breadcrumbs beside the chart.
- Understands APFS volume groups, firmlinks, purgeable space, and system volumes.
- External drives appear automatically when connected.
- Automatic updates via Sparkle.
