  1. 0.36.0LatestBig update

    • Camera layouts: pick from corner, split, fill split and a new Cutout layout that removes your background, with a Layout lane on the Studio timeline
    • Corner camera shrinks out of the way during zooms, and zooms follow the action inside a split
    • Camera touch-ups: face light and skin smoothing
    • Studio now supports text, pixelate, images, GIFs and audio on the timeline, with a resizable, redesigned timeline
    • Cleaner Studio inspector with foldable sections
    • Library v2: a new grid, smart sidebar, on-device text recognition, automatic categories and Similar captures
    • Search Unsplash for frame backgrounds
    • Double-click or press Space on a recording in the Library to open it in the editor
    • Studio exports default to HEVC and run faster
    • Fixed shadows outlining the screen and camera in exports
  2. 0.35.3

    • Press Space during Capture Area to switch to window selection, just like the system screenshot tool (thanks @Iiviavs)
  3. 0.35.2

    • Fixed the capture shelf's tucked handle and header buttons only responding to clicks on their text on macOS 26
  4. 0.35.1

    • Fixed the tucked capture shelf handle needing two clicks to reopen, or not reopening at all on some Macs
    • Clicks on the shelf handle that move slightly on a trackpad now open the shelf instead of being ignored
  5. 0.35.0Big update

    • A redesign of the whole app on one Liquid Glass design system: Settings, Library, the screenshot editor, Studio and every floating panel now share the same controls, and use your Mac's accent color
    • New capture shelf: cards dock to the screen edge, slide in and out through it, and tuck away into a slim handle you can drag anywhere along the edge, so they never cover an editor's buttons
    • Capture cards frost on hover with clearer, equal-width actions, every action is in the right-click menu, and a card can't delete a capture that is open in an editor
    • Studio's sidebar is rebuilt around one short Look: style thumbnails of your own recording, Canvas, Frame, then one switch per feature
    • Pick a background from a single row: hovering a fill previews it on the video or screenshot before you choose
    • The screenshot editor gets Studio's Styles strip, Canvas and Frame sections, and Crop moves into the tool dock, which morphs into the crop bar
    • Annotations now stay on the image: new shapes, moves, resizes and arrow-key nudges stop at its edge
    • The screenshot editor opens on the Select tool, with a Starting tool setting to change it
    • With the sidebar hidden, Share, Save As and Done move to the toolbar instead of floating over the screenshot
    • The teleprompter is now part of the recording bar: its button unfolds the bar into the script editor, with word count and speaking time
    • The recording bar has a grip to drag it anywhere
    • Improved screen and window picker, video timeline and pinhead, and a speed badge for sped-up clips
    • Inspector sections fold smoothly without bouncing, switches are a normal size, and controls dim when they have no effect
    • Error messages now go away on their own
    • Fixed: the watermark section wouldn't open
    • Fixed: Start Recording couldn't be clicked in the source picker
    • Fixed: saving in the editor could drop a card over it
    • Fixed: the pointer flickering on the recording bar
  6. 0.34.0Big update

    • Faster video exports: every frame now renders on the GPU, the CPU and GPU work on consecutive frames in parallel, HEVC is tuned for encoding speed, and exports no longer run on the main thread, so Studio stays responsive while you export. In our testing, a 50-second camera recording exported up to 40% faster. Actual speedups depend on your Mac, recording, and export settings.
    • An interactive Studio canvas that matches the export: click to play or pause, see the frame you're skimming, drag a Fixed zoom's target right on the paused canvas, and move the camera bubble with snapping guides. The bubble now always stays clear of the canvas edge.
    • A reworked Studio timeline: grouped transport controls, a single current/total time readout, and new shortcuts: ⌘B or S to split at the playhead, arrow keys to step a frame, and Shift-arrow to step a second. Reset Clips now asks for confirmation.
    • A cleaner Studio inspector, consistent with the screenshot editor: timeline selections pinned to the top, collapsed sections with summaries, remembered expanded sections, clip speed presets, and the audio format chosen at export time.
    • A tidier Studio toolbar: a prominent Export button, an icon-only Save, and untitled recordings named by when they were recorded, with length and resolution shown underneath.
    • A refreshed screenshot editor inspector: on/off switches for Border and Watermark, summaries on collapsed sections, and remembered expanded sections.
    • A refined Library window on macOS 27, with a rounded content area beside the sidebar.
    • Fixed a thin dark outline around the corners of rounded screenshot borders, in both the editor and exported images.
  7. 0.33.0Big update

    • Choose any background color for screenshots and recordings using the new color-picker tile.
    • Adjust recording audio volume from mute to 200%, with changes saved to the project and applied to playback, video exports, and audio-only exports.
    • Show or hide the mouse pointer from the Cursor section in Recording Studio. Hiding the pointer also hides click highlights in preview and export for recordings with a separate cursor track.
  8. 0.32.1

    • Fixed uneven padding in the recording editor when using Original aspect ratio.
    • Original now fits the cropped video, removing wallpaper strips at 0% padding.
    • Preview and export use matching padding, and older cached exports refresh with the corrected layout.
  9. 0.32.0Big update

    • Meet the new Media Library: screenshots, videos, and editable recording projects now live in one native macOS window. Browse in grid or list view, search and sort captures, inspect file details, and edit, export, or share from one place.
    • Up to 3× faster video exports with Metal-accelerated rendering. Studio moves demanding motion-blur work to the GPU and reuses unchanged screen frames, with a Core Graphics fallback when needed. Actual speedups depend on your Mac, recording, and export settings.
    • More control over video exports: choose 30 or 60 fps and turn motion blur on or off independently. Your choices are remembered and used consistently for Export, Share, and Library rendering.
    • Smoother annotation navigation: rewritten canvas zoom and pan, pointer-anchored pinch zoom, predictable zoom-out speed, proper canvas boundaries, and a new maximum zoom of 1000%.
    • A visible reminder before recording: when Capture Visibility is enabled, a compact banner below the recorder warns that Screendrop windows will be captured and lets you switch it off immediately.
    • Lower editor memory use: bounded image previews, more efficient rendering resources, and better cleanup when editor windows close. Full-resolution source images and editable screenshot data are preserved.
    • Safer saving: screenshot commits coordinate Save, Done, and Upload, preserve existing files during replacement, and restore them if a save fails. Editors stay open when saving fails, and newer edits are no longer incorrectly marked as saved.
    • Better save recovery: screenshot save failures offer Retry or another destination, and opening a save dialog keeps the preview available even if you cancel. Uploading an untouched screenshot now works too.
    • Countdowns you can cancel: cancel the countdown or close the recorder to stop a pending recording. Source selection is disabled while the countdown is running to prevent duplicate starts.
    • Clearer recording setup: source-loading progress and errors now have visible feedback, a retry action, and a link to screen recording permissions when needed.
    • More reliable shortcuts and Cloud setup: rejected shortcut changes keep the previous working binding and explain the error. Automatic upload settings guide you to Cloud setup when configuration is missing.
    • Cleaner handoffs and more consistent UI: recording preview cards dismiss after successful editor, save, export, and share handoffs; failed or cancelled actions remain available for retry. Library cells, inspector actions, settings labels, and editor controls have been polished throughout.
    • Corrected shadow falloff in perspective screenshot layouts.
    • Screendrop is back under the CC0 1.0 Universal license.
  10. 0.31.4

    • Add Capture Text: OCR area capture with Shortcuts support
    • Relicense from CC0 to a source-available license
  11. 0.31.3

    • Add non-destructive video cropping
  12. 0.31.2

    • Deleting a recording from the editor or the Projects browser now removes its preview card instead of leaving a card behind for footage that no longer exists
  13. 0.31.1

    • Fixed clicks being recorded at the wrong position in window recordings, including windows that were moved or resized mid-recording
    • Window recordings now track the window's position and size on every frame instead of assuming it stays where it started
    • New zoom cues default to Pointer tracking instead of Smart
  14. 0.31.0Big update

    • Reopen past screen recordings as projects, from the new Recordings menu or the Projects window
    • Save a recording project with Cmd-S, with a save or discard prompt when closing an edited project
    • Exports now reveal the finished file in Finder, with a toggle in Settings > Screen Recordings
    • Fixed recordings being saved or copied without the mouse cursor, camera bubble, or your edits
    • The annotation editor now asks before discarding unsaved annotations, and adds Cmd-S
    • Fixed the Shadow slider changing the image's padding and the weight of its border
    • Cloud upload failures in History now report what went wrong instead of failing silently
  15. 0.30.1

    • Fixed corner radius rendering and related visual polish
    • Added MP4 export support and a dedicated export dialogue
    • Improved numbered circle label centering
    • Refined README documentation and screenshots
  16. 0.30.0Big update

    • Screendrop is now a complete, non-destructive screen-recording studio: every recording keeps its screen, camera, audio, pointer, keystroke, and edit data together so you can reopen the project and keep refining it.
    • Edit recordings on a real timeline with thumbnail scrubbing, split, trim, delete, per-clip speed controls, undo and redo, plus a zoomable, scrollable workspace built for long recordings.
    • Turn raw interaction into polished motion with automatic click-driven zooms, editable zoom blocks, pointer-follow reframing, fixed focus points, reconstructed cursor movement, click highlights, and positionable keystroke captions.
    • Record a display, window, or selected area alongside an optional camera, microphone, and system audio; the new pre-record bar adds camera preview, input selection, area highlighting, and 1, 3, or 5 second timers.
    • Present naturally with a notch-native teleprompter that follows your narration using Apple's on-device speech recognition, with a floating fallback for Macs and displays without a notch.
    • Special thanks to Jilles Soeters (@jillesme) for the original idea behind Screendrop's teleprompter.
    • Transcribe narration on-device, fix caption text, burn in karaoke-style word highlighting, or edit the video itself by selecting transcript passages, removing filler words, and trimming narration silences.
    • Compose for every destination with Original, 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, and 4:5 output, Fill or Fit reframing, editable camera placement, backgrounds, padding, corners, shadows, and reusable Studio style presets.
    • Export and Share now render the complete composition—including camera, zooms, cursor, clicks, keystrokes, captions, clip edits, speed changes, and selected audio—with progress, cancellation, completion feedback, and render reuse when nothing changed.
    • Annotation Studio has a new unified shape engine, a Highlight tool, reusable background presets, a refined inspector, and full-resolution wide-gamut exports that better match the on-screen preview.
    • Create richer screenshot mockups with perspective camera controls, zoom and pan, progressive radial or directional blur, configurable edge behavior, solid borders, wallpapers, gradients, watermarks, alignment, padding, corner radius, and shadow.
    • Open one or many images from Finder directly in Screendrop; each image is imported as an editable copy in History, leaving the original untouched.
    • Automate screenshots and recordings through Apple Shortcuts, Siri, and Spotlight, and choose whether Screendrop's own windows appear in captures from Settings.
    • Cloud sharing gains upload titles, comments and likes controls, richer video sidecars for posters, transcripts, and scrub previews, plus the ability to delete an uploaded capture from History and invalidate its public link.
    • Polish and reliability are everywhere: smoother preview-card animations, faster off-main screenshot rendering, cached wallpaper previews, more reliable click capture without Input Monitoring, better teleprompter placement on external displays, and extensive recording-toolbar, timeline, cursor, zoom, and export fixes.

    • Added one-click JPG compression from preview cards, creating a separate draggable JPG with size-savings feedback.
    • Redesigned the annotation inspector around a cleaner shared control system.
    • Fixed preview overlay sizing so screenshot cards fill the hover surface correctly.
  19. 0.21.3

Show 5 older releases
  1. 0.21.1

    • Fixed a glitch where preview cards briefly looked square (the image overflowed the rounded corners) while the overlay collapsed or expanded.
  2. 0.21.0Big update

    • New peek tab: recent captures now collapse into a compact pill at the bottom of the screen while you edit or preview, instead of disappearing. Click it to bring your stack back, or scroll down to tuck it away.
    • Quick Look (press Space) now keeps your captures in the peek tab instead of hiding the overlay.
    • Crop tool: crop and reframe your screenshots right inside the annotator.
    • Clear all captures at once with the new button on the peek tab.
    • Unsaved capture warning: Screendrop now warns you before quitting or updating when you have captures that haven't been saved to disk, so you never lose work.
