subON treats your Mac's built-in speakers and one external USB or Bluetooth speaker as a single playback system. The built-in speakers keep doing what they are good at, clarity and stereo image, while the second speaker only fills in the low end a thin laptop cannot produce. The hard part of that setup is getting two outputs to line up, so subON measures them and sets delay, crossover and EQ automatically; the middle edition also adds acoustic correction and a graphic EQ. Pro opens the full settings panel, saved presets, up to five Audio Unit effects and a virtual output mode for routing other apps through it. Audio runs through a virtual audio device the app installs.
